Inspired by... Baby Sensory!

When I first started my baby sensory classes with the mini fairy, we had a "water" week with the most wonderful sea life sheet - a lovely light blue sheet of material, with hanging down seaweed and fishies!! Kiki loved the seaweed tickling her nose and face, it made her smile and giggle.

This inspired my latest make - the sea-life glove!!

I thought it would be wonderful to make something like the sea life sheet, that kept her entertained and happy, but also could be transportable and pulled out of the changing bag whenever we needed a wee toy to play with!

So I got to work with a glove, adding on lovely 'sea-like' material, lovely felt fish and starfish, and ribbon 'seaweed'.  And voila - the sea-life glove was created!!!

And the mini fairy has had lots of fun with it so far!!

Love and sparkles on this fab Friday,

Inspired by..... Rag Wreaths

I'd like to start a new style of blog this year called "inspired by...".

This type of blog will be specifically for when a person, group, item etc. inspires my thinking and ideas.

So, for the very first "Inspired by..." blog - the idea for this Christmas craft came from my work girlies and boss, who had came to visit me and Kiki just before Christmas.  They were telling me about a lovely craft evening they had making rag wreaths.  I think my boss had been inspired by some rag and ribbon wreaths she had seen at the ideal home show.

I had been wanting to try these for a while, so when I found a plastic hoop in my craft stash, the perfect size for a mini wreath, I couldn't wait to try it!!

I had been making a few different things with material in December, and always keep my little scraps and offcuts - these were perfect for tying onto the rag wreath!!
I decided on what colours I wanted - cream and greens to go with the kitchen - then I looked through my scrap bags, and got a nice wee pile of strips together, then spent a night tying them on the hoop.

A very relaxing craft, and perfect for recycling scraps and offcuts of material that may end up in the bin otherwise (thankfully, nothing ends up in the bin in Fairys craft room and I had plenty of scraps to spare for my rag wreath!)

I am hoping to make more of these later in the year so I might end up doing a tutorial on rag wreaths!

Happy New Year!!!

So, here it is, my first blog post of the year!

It was actually on my task list last year to do more crafting and blogging, unfortunately I didn't seem to get round to much of that last year - too busy baking up a storm, and baking up my own little 'bun in the oven!'.  The very lovely Kiki was born in October 2013.  Being pregnant also seemed to put me off doing my crafts.  I did achieve some things, just didn't have the get-up-and-go that I needed to craft as much as I wanted too.  We also moved house in the middle of the year, which took up a lot of our time - moving, then re-decorating new house, so me and 'Mr Dragon' now have a huge art room to work in - exciting stuff!

My very own Mini Fairy!!

So I'll start with a little round up of my crafty and cake-y 2013.....

All the cakes I made in 2013!!!

All my crafty bits i managed to get around to in 2013

Kikis decoupage K

Shabby Chic rainbow mobile
Mums birthday wire heart brooch

Taggy blankets for new babies

Personalised Memo boards
Bird food sack
Hudl case for a very special tea lover!

Mosaic glass pebble mirror

Well that was a little round up of 2013.  Hopefully 2014 will be an even better year for crafting and cakes.  I know I've got plenty ideas anyway!!  And I've now got a mini fairy to 'help' me out!!

All the best for 2014 and hope its a great year for you, whether you're crafting, cake-ing or child rearing

Lots of love

Christmas Crafting...

So, i've been pretty busy the past few weekends crafting away for Christmas. Have mainly been crafting Christmas cards, using Smirk goodies i bought a few years ago.  Was having trouble finding some Fairy inspiration so needed to look online and borrow some ideas and gather inspiration there!!

I've also been crafting some "Handy Pegs" for stocking fillers and Christmas baskets.

I have given these a little Christmas twist, with some gorgeous christmassy ribbon and lovely christmas themed buttons and wooden charms.  These have magnets on the back, so can be used to stick to your fridge to hold on to shopping lists, christmas recipes etc.  You can also use them to hang up stockings, cards etc.  Hopefully my recipients will be very happy with them.

Anyway better go off and spread some more fairy magic over my craft table, and get on with the rest of my christmas projects,

It's beginning to smell a lot like Christmas . . .

The past few weeks i've been starting to do my crafting for Christmas.
I have decided to make lovely hampers for all my family - save on the pennies and give them some gorgeous handcrafted goodies.

I started off last week with some soap making. Bit of an experiment for me, something new i've never done before.  It also takes 6 weeks for the soap to be ready, so wont find out till then how it has turned out!!

found instructions for it here:

I made 5 types of soap:
Lavender - with real buds of lavender in it and lavender essential oil
Orange and christmas spice - For the orange in the stocking!
Candy cane - sweet minty smelling
Christmas fairy - sweet smelling, pink and glittery
Frosty - a more masculine soap, with frosty mint and cedarwood tones

So, in 5 weeks i will be able to cut it up and wrap it ready for christmas. Already in one week, the colour has changed, and it's now much firmer ( the first few days were a worry as it didnt seem to be firming up very quickly!) - and its smelling great too which is excellent.

So this week was the turn of the Food - things that needed made in advance - Christmas cake, green tomato chutney, and spiced pickled beetroot.  Both the beetroot and green tomatoes had been picked fresh from the garden that morning.

And the kitchen smelt wonderful - extremely christmassy spicy scents everywhere!!!

The jars all ready to add labels to, and the cake ready to be fed with booze every week - it'll be amazing by the time it gets to christmas!!!

bye for now
